A Fox News reporter claims the slump in Travis Kelce’s form is due to Taylor Swift, following the Kansas City star’s tough start to the season, although he’s had uptakes in performances against the Los Angeles Chargers and New Orleans Saints.
The 35-year-old only managed to make eight receptions for 69 yards through the opening three weeks of the 2024/25 NFL season as fans feared he finally hit the age wall and was poised for a significant physical decline.
Yet Patrick Mahomes dismissed this and said all he needs is more targets after being kept out of the game by rival defenses and that appears to be the case after he combined for 16 receptions (19 targets) for 159 yards in Week 4 and 5.
However, some people still feel his girlfriend is to blame. Kelce began a relationship with Swift in August 2023 and despite going on to win the Super Bowl that season, critics still allege she caused a downturn in form, including the Fox host.
“He decided he wanted to be a Swiftie,” the host claimed. “And now his game has decreased. The fall of every great man is always a woman.”
Kelce still got a lot to give;
Kelce is yet to land a touchdown in 2024/25 but he is still making big plays and forcing the team up the field by catching Mahomes’ targets, showing he still as a lot to give to the Chiefs’ offense in his twilight years.
In the game against the Saints, which the Chiefs won 26-13, the tight end caught a play from Mahomes but quickly realized he didn’t have the legs or space to burst through the defense so wisely played a lateral pass to his colleague which almost resulted in a touchdown with the scores at 10-7.
The innovation showed that whilst he might not be as fast as he once was in his hamstrings, his brain is still just as sharp as he leans into his decade of experience in professional football to make the difference at Arrowhead Stadium.
