Queen Mary of Denmark is the second of Kate Middleton as she re-wears one of the Princess of Wales’s most iconic gowns

Queen Mary of Denmark was thinking pink for the latest party at the palace, reaching for a gown that Kate Middleton also owns.
On Feb. 28, Queen Mary and King Frederik hosted an Arts and Culture Ball at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, continuing a tradition that his parents, Queen Margrethe and the late Prince Henrik, started in 1976. Queen Mary, 53, glittered in a pale pink long-sleeved sequin gown by Jenny Packham and topped the look with her Edwardian tiara.
Queen Mary has worn the gown before, but there’s another reason it might look familiar — Princess Kate has sported the same dress on multiple occasions! Mary was the first to bring attention to the dress, which features shoulder pads and silver sequin details at the collar and waist, when she wore it for a 50th birthday portrait in 2022.

The Princess of Wales, 43, then wore the “Georgia” gown by the British brand in 2023 and also paired it with a tiara. Princess Kate shimmered the statement dress for the evening banquet celebrating the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein to Princess Rajwa in Amman, Jordan, where Kate briefly lived as a child for her father Michael Middleton’s job at British Airways.
Kate wore the number by Jenny Packham (a frequent label in her rotation) with the diamond and pearl Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot tiara, one of her go-to sparklers that was also worn by Princess Diana. She also pinned on the Greville Chandelier earrings for the first time, making a debut in a set Queen Elizabeth previously sported.

The Princess of Wales had a totally regal moment in the rose gold gown and royal accessories at the wedding celebration, and she repeated the exact same outfit combination just a few months later.
Princess Kate sparkled in her Georgia gown by Jenny Packham with the same tiara and earrings again at the Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace in December 2023, where she joined Prince William, King Charles and Queen Camilla to mingle with members of the Diplomatic Corps at the annual event.

Queen Mary wore the dress again to the Arts and Culture Ball last Friday, and she styled it in a similar way to Princess Kate. The Danish Queen sported the glam gown with her hair down and tiara pushing it back, like Kate has, plus a pair of statement earrings she had commissioned, The Court Jeweller reported.
The King and Queen welcomed representatives from the world of arts and culture to the Arts and Culture Ball last week, marking their first time hosting the event since his accession in January 2024. The couple arrived at the Great Hall with arms linked and hit the dance floor during the bash, where the King made a speech.

The Arts and Culture Ball is a rich tradition in Denmark, tracing back to the reign of King Christian VIII in the 19th century. Frederik’s ancestor had a great passion for the arts, culture and science, and would convene select guests for parties at the palace.
After dinner at the royal ball, King Frederik and Queen Mary hopped up to dance Les Lanciers and were light on their feet in a video the court shared on Instagram.
“For more than 150 years, Les Lanciers has been danced at the Court’s parties. To this day, it is still a tradition that is upheld at a number of the Royal House’s events,” the Danish Royal House said in a statement.
“The dance consists of five turns, which are danced by the four couples of the quadrille. The fifth turn is called the ‘herremøllen’ and is a Danish addition to Les Lanciers.”
Queen Mary and Princess Kate seem to have a similar sense of classic fashion and share other brands like Beulah in their royal wardrobes.
