Kansas City Chiefs secure Super Bowl hero Mecole Hardman to give Patrick Mahomes new weapon

Wide receiver Mecole Hardman is set to return to the Kansas City Chiefs after agreeing a one-year contract extension, following his decisive touchdown during Super Bowl LVIII.

Following his less-than-fruitful tenure with the New York Jets, Hardman was traded back to his old team last season. Despite experiencing a loss of position within the Jets team, he quickly stepped up into a pivotal role upon his return to Kansas City, notably securing the club’s back-to-back championships with an overtime touchdown, thanks to a sterling throw from Patrick Mahomes.

The 26 year-old has been an integral part of the Chiefs’ gameplay for the past five seasons, impressing fans and foes alike by covering distances over 2,000 yards and scoring 16 touchdowns all while being handed a variety of roles.

Hardman dominated at the wide receiver position in 2022 with his impressive yard coverage statistics until he signed with the Jets and found himself shipped out after only six games. Controversy arose when Hardman was accused of sharing the Jets’ game strategies with the Philadelphia Eagles prior to his departure.

Superstar cornerback Sauce Gardner was the first to point fingers, tweeting before hastily deleting: “We ain’t gon talk about how our offensive gameplan got leaked vs. the Eagles,”. This followed punter Thomas Morstead cautioning the press: “Be careful getting information from disgruntled former employees.”

Hardman was handed a one-year contract by the Jets, where he was expected to be a starter. However, he eventually lost his spot in the depth chart to undrafted rookie Xavier Gibson, leading to a gradual decrease in his game time week by week.
