It has been a long week for the surfer community and sadly there is not good news to report, as Jorge Alvarado, the surfer who was placed on life support after suffering a serious head injury during a wipeout at Daytona Beach last week has passed away.
His friends announced the previous as they also paid their respects to the Florida surfer, who was only 49 years old. This sad situation has united the surfer community to help with the costs of medical expenses.
Justin Gore, a friend of Alvarado, provided the tragic update to sources close to the situation and through a GoFundMe page, by saying the memories they made together will live forever as many have contributed to the fund.
The strong message from his friends
Everyone would like to pay their respects but for now a contribution to the GoFundMe page will be very helpful, as that is the fastest way to try and do it, while reading what his close friend posted.
Jorge, rest in paradise brother,” Justin Gore said. “Your spirit was as vibrant as the ocean waves you loved to ride. You brought joy and adventure to everyone around you.”
Alvarado’s death originated from a horrific accident he had south of Sunglow Pier on the morning of September 13 when he reportedly struck his head and got tangled with a pier support. It took several minutes to free him before he was taken to a hospital where five days later he sadly passed away.
