Kate Middleton and Prince William to Spend 14th Wedding Anniversary in Country Where They Fell in Love

The Prince and Princess of Wales — who are titled the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland — are heading to the northwest of Scotland on April 29

Kate Middleton and Prince William are planning a poignant outing on their 14th wedding anniversary by heading to the country where they fell in love: Scotland.

William and Kate are traveling to an island off the northwest of the country for two days of visits starting on April 29 — the same date as their 2011 wedding at Westminster Abbey.

The couple, who are known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, met at the University of St. Andrews in 2005 as they studied Art History together. They dated, off and on, for much of their four years at the university.

Their visit — which is designed to celebrate rural communities and the craft work and farming communities — begins on the Isle of Mull on April 29, where William and Kate will start the day in Tobermory.

The seaside town, with its brightly painted harbor cottages, is the setting for a popular British children’s TV show, Balamory. The couple are set to visit a local town hall which is a community hub and also see the producer’s market where they will sample local food and meet some of the craftspeople.

They will also use the occasion to launch a partnership between their Royal Foundation and the local area to support two community spaces on Mull, which has a population of about 3000 people and has a celebrated tourism, farming and fishing heritage.

On the west of the island, William, 42, and Kate, 43, are planning to visit a local croft (a small farm) to learn about the sustainable agriculture undertaken there and the hospitality on the island. At the heart of the 50-acre farm is the croft building and restaurant that serves up dishes of locally-produced food, while the couple will also see some of the herd of Hebridean sheep and help choose some of the locally-grown vegetables.

On the second day of their visit, the couple are due to spend time with the Countryside Rangers from the Mull and Iona Ranger Service (Iona is the tiny neighboring island — which has a population of just 170 people). There, William and Kate will join a group of local schoolchildren for some outdoor learning at the ancient Atlantic rainforest. It is deemed to be one of Scotland’s most precious habitats.

Later, the royal parents will take part in an activity with Ardura Acorns, which is one of the only early-years outdoor learning play groups on the island — in keeping with Princess Kate’s work to help 0-5 year olds and their families and carers.

It is the first scheduled visit, so far announced, for the couple since the Easter holiday which they spent with their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis (who is 7 on April 23).

During the vacation, they enjoyed a skiing holiday in the Alps, and spent much of the vacation at their country home, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk. The family is reported to have entertained Kate’s parents Carole and Michael Middleton on Easter Sunday, where they were seen going to church at St. Mary Magdallen, on the royal estate of Sandringham.
