NFL legend, Brett Favre, revealed he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 54 but what is the condition that affects motor functions and has struck stars such as Michael J. Fox?
Favre, who played in the top level of American Football with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings, becoming Super Bowl champion in 1997, made the confession at a Congressional hearing.
“Sadly, I also lost an investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others,” Favre said at the event regarding welfare reform.
“I’m sure you’ll understand, while it’s too late for me because I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, this is also a cause dear to my heart.”
Favre has found himself named to a civil lawsuit by the Mississippi Department of Human Services during which they alleged $77 million dollars of funding, intended for struggling families, was siphoned away to the rich.
It’s alleged that $8m went to Favre, or causes he advocated for. The NFL Hall of Famer continues to deny wrongdoing and has not been charged although he has repaid over a million dollars.
