Prince William Reduced King Charles ‘To Tears’ Over Comment About His Future: ‘I’ve Started to…’

Prince William has reportedly been King Charles’s pillar of strength as he battles cancer. The Prince of Wales has taken on many royal duties on behalf of his father since his diagnosis in 2024. After the passing of Queen Elizabeth in 2022, William became the Duke of Cornwall, taking on the stewardship of the Duchy of Cornwall estate. In the 2019 ITV documentary, Prince Charles: Inside the Duchy of Cornwall, viewers witnessed an emotional moment between Charles and William. As reported by The Mirror, the Prince is seen engaging with Mervyn Keeling, a second-generation farmer, discussing the private estate. He says, “I’ve started to think about how I will inherit the Duchy one day and what I will do with it. I think it’s really important, the family angle, I really do.

Royal fans subsequently got a clip of Charles’s reaction to the same. The monarch confessed, “When I saw it, I couldn’t believe it. I was deeply touched and moved by what he said. Frankly, it reduced me to tears…Because, I suddenly thought, well, just hearing that from him has made the last 50 years worthwhile.” The documentary also explored the then-Prince Charles’s deep connection to the estate and his sense of responsibility for it for over five decades. The monarch revealed at the time that he would stick to the values his father had instilled in the business, which reflect his social and environmental values.

After the Queen’s death, when William became the patron of We Are Farming Minds, a Duchy of Cornwall-supported charity to help farmers experiencing loneliness and mental health issues, he told The Sunday Times that he wants to build the homes on the Duchy of Cornwall’s 130,000-acre property that he now controls as the Prince of Wales. He explained that he wanted to make it his mission to end homelessness and said he will launch a ‘really big project’ to take on the issue. The Prince of Wales is also the patron of Centrepoint, a charity which helps homeless young people. In 2023, he officially opened Reuben House, a block of 33 studio properties where rents are set at a third of a resident’s income, on behalf of the charity.
